StoneCrest Medical Center Donates Fence to Habitat for Humanity

April 1, 2009 – There has been a bustle of activity behind the six-foot construction fence at StoneCrest Medical Center this past year. Ground was broken on May 16th 2008 for the construction of four new OR suites at StoneCrest Medical Center and now with the project near completion, the fence has been taken down. The new surgical suites are part of a $15.8 million dollar expansion that includes the addition of 26 medical/surgical beds.

Completing the project on schedule was the first priority, but it was also important to the StoneCrest team that they were thoughtful about what to do with left over materials.

“We knew the fence was in great shape when we took it down so it was simply a question of what to do with it,” said Brad Baker, StoneCrest Medical Center’s director of plant operations.

Recalling StoneCrest’s involvement in building a Habitat House on October 4th 2008, the construction team along with Robins and Morton, contractor on the project, decided to donate the fence to the Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity ReStore. ReStore sells new and gently used materials and is open to the public. Proceeds from ReStore go back to Habitat for Humanity to assist in building more homes in Rutherford County.

The donation of the fence is yet another manifestation of our hospital’s commitment to being good neighbors in the community we serve,” said Joe Bowman, interim CEO for StoneCrest Medical Center. “StoneCrest is committed to community service and the knowledge that our contribution goes to help the very people this hospital serves in Rutherford County makes this even more important.”

Sunbelt Rentals donated the use of a truck to transport the fence to the ReStore.
